With more students gaining success from online learning, it is inevitable that online learning is as much sought after as face-to-face learning. Undoubtedly, one of the most important considerations is convenience. Online or distance learning is effective as it can be done anywhere, any time, and at any pace.
Just as it can be one of the most flexible systems of learning, distance learning has a downside as one may get distracted and lack momentum when learning. There are no physical teachers to give you that push and you may get side-tracked with a myriad of distractions.
If you are doing online or distance learning, here are a few strategies that may help you with your studying online or from a distance.

Tip 1 – Build a learning environment that is user-friendly.
You need to create a learning environment that is conducive to your needs. Make it as cheerful as possible with good ventilation and include some of your favourite paraphernalia that brings you joy. More importantly, structure a way for you to access and study readily. You could also create notice boards and create ‘Goals for the Week’ with daily reminders to complete tasks.
These are just some examples of things that will help you to stay on top of your schedule. It is all about creating your focus zone. It should beckon to you to study and remain in focus mode.
Tip 2 – Make a schedule of your weekly learning goals.
Set a goal for each day and make clear objectives. Meeting your study goal at the end of the day can be immensely satisfying and will add impetus to set your sights on the next level. Be systematic and ensure that you have enough time for a breather at the end of the day. Do not over-aim for an impossible feat.
Add small study games to ease the flow of information. Studying alone can require stamina and you need to find ways to make it more palatable. Make it more exciting by recording your learnings and replaying them while doing some exercise. Be inventive. Studying does not mean you have to be sitting down for hours on end.

Tip 3 – Engage with the course by participating in online interaction.
Your peers will be treading the same path as you in distance learning and this will be a chance for you to participate in online discussions. This will be a gateway for you to understand the standard and expectations of your course. Be objective and engage, even if you’re not sure about the topic.
The more you interact, the better your notion of your study goals. Broaden your horizons and gain from the varied responses from your peers.
Tip 4 – Limit time on social media.
This is probably the most useful tip as social media can be a bane. Keep away from the temptation to switch over from your study browser to an online chat, shopping app, or YouTube. Distractions may just be your worst enemy when it comes to distance learning.
It can be impossible to keep away from social media completely, so tell yourself that you will look it up as a reward after achieving certain study goals. There is no harm in flavouring your intense study hours with a little bit of ‘me’ time.
Learning on your own can be rewarding as you have more freedom and time for yourself as compared to having physical lessons. With that said, all the best with distance learning!
